I really thought I had written a post this before, I hope I am not double posting.
When I was in Wildwood a few weeks ago I had a great conversation about art, the different genres of art, what we liked/disliked, the epistemology of art, great topics after a few drinks. That is why I found this article to be so interesting. It is a review of the current Corcoran show redefined, which takes pieces from the permenant collection and exhibits them in a new manner, a trend in exhibiting in musuems. What I really like about the article, it has a discussion about a few of the pieces from the exhibit and is able to put those pieces into context, for some, both from the context of when it was painted/created and in the context of today. I love the visual arts. Also I love the performing arts, but the visual arts resonates with me in a way the performing arts could not. I think this article can give an insight into certain pieces and make them more accessible, rather than the piece just looking like a picture of pee.
redefined will be on display until January 2007. The Corcoran is open Wednesday through Sunday 10am to 5pm with a $8 admission. On Thursday evenings from 5pm to 9pm, admission is pay-as-you-wish.
