how would you woo an irishman?

Njshorelogo Bathe in whiskey! I love my friend Jon. You can see many Irish things next week-end up on the Jersey shore. Gotta love the shore. Especially Wildwood where south Philly goes for the summer.  Starting Thursday, the 21st of September is the four-day Irish Fall Festival. There will be dancing, Irish music, food and crafts and a piper competition. Also, a parade on Sunday afternoon. A full lineup of the performances is available here. Almost all the events are free.

I was there at the end of August for a week-end. Jersey boys who say, "How you doin'" will always have a special place in my heart, especially if they are Irish and Italian.

it takes a village

On Saturday, N Street Village will have a block party to celebrate an award of excellence in non-profit management.  The party will be on U St, between 14th St and Vermont Ave and will be held between 12 - 4pm.  There will be tours of N Street Village, a BBQ, crafts for the family and a performance from Radio King Orchestra.  It will be a lot of fun and an opportunity to learn about a great organisation.

metrobrella

MetrobrellaI adore this new umbrella from the Metro Store.  Printed on it is the DC Metro system map.  It is too cute.  You can purchase the metrobrella from the Metro Store or of you are lucky, Home Rule at 14th & S Sts, NW will have it in-store.

adams morgan day

AdamsmorgandayI almost forgot about Adams Morgan Day Sunday.  This street festival along 18th St, will be in it's 28th year.  This year there are three performance stages and in between there are vendors and food and an art show.  The festival will run between noon and 7pm along 18th St between Columbia and U Sts.  Admission and all the performances are free.

For all you searching out there, the 2006 High Heel Race in Washington, DC will be on the 24th of October on 17th St, between P and S Sts.  The parade normally starts at 6pm, race at 9pm and then the drinking ensues.

housekeeping

I've gotten bad about updating, and since I pay for this blog, I should get better. I've cleaned up my links to the right. No promises that other people are updating their blogs or websites, but there are no dead links. I've also changed and updated my about me page. Here's to hoping I'm better about posting, and I can raise my value.

summer's end

Jazzfest_logo_05

I'm very sad to say that the summer's end is upon me.  I'll go up to NYC one last time at the end of the month for a few exhibits and a festival, post to follow in a week or so.  This week-end you can enjoy the waning days of summer by enjoying the Silver Spring Jazz Festival.  The festival will be this Saturday from 2pm to 10:30pm at Silver Plaza on Ellsworth Drive in Downtown Silver Spring, between Georgia and Fenton.  Free parking is available, just check the website or take Metro.

What did I do with my summer vacation? I didn't have one, but I did have a fabulous time running around NYC with 350 high school students and an amazing staff.  Photos on my Flickr site.

The photos do not properly do justice to all the craziness that was this summer.  Prom pictures to be posted soon!

circus

Chihuly_nights_hmblk

So, I have not been around.  I officially joined the circus for the summer.  But it has been a great summer in New York City.  To celebrate my time in NYC, a post about what to do if you are up in the big apple. The New York Botanical Garden presents the show Chihuly at The New York Botanical Garden. I saw an incarnation of this show in Chicago, and it was amazing. If you are up in the NY area, you should see this exhibit, but be sure to pre-buy tickets to guarantee admittance.

fear the turtle

Terpchaosthumb

I'm famous!  Ok, so I'm really not, but you can see my picture up at the Fear the Turtle Sculptures webpage.  Last year, Maryland kicked off their 150th Anniversary celebration. A part of that was to jump on the Cow Parade bandwagon, or in this case, a turtle parade.  Fifty turtles where cast out of fiberglass, painted and accessorised and now adorn locations all over the great state of Maryland.  If you would like to visit all 50, be sure to get your picture taken with them and join in the Fear the Turtle Sculpture Scavenger Hunt that is between the 1st of August and all entries must be recieved by the 1st of October.

maritime!

Well, it's that time again....yes, World Cup Football, but more immediately the Volvo Ocean Race, or the Whitbread. This every-four-year 'round the world race is one of the largest and hardest yacht races. Soon it will be coming to the Chesapeake, both Baltimore and Annapolis. Information about the joint event can be found at Ocean Race Chesapeake. The Waterfront Festival in Baltimore starts on April 27th and runs till the 30th. You can sail blokart land yachts and even sign up for a free sailing lesson. The competing boats will be in Baltimore until May 4th, when they sail down to Annapolis for the Maritime Heritage Festival from May 4th through 7th at the City Dock complete with a pirate dog contest and live music. Since it's release today, I'm obessed with Google Calendar. I've created an account for locatedindc [at] gmail [dot] com. I'll add events I'm interested in around the DC metro area. Be sure to search for it!

busy, busy

Summerclutch So, I've been really busy lately.  Between taking two classes, working full time and three extra jobs and helping Paul to move into his new place, it's been a busy time.  I was able to go down and see the cherry blossoms, not quite in full bloom, but still nice.  The Festival will end this week-end and there is still lots to see and do.  My favourite is always the free daily performances at the Jefferson Memorial.  They begin at noon.

I am obessed with finding a few things for the spring/summer.  My sunglasses that I've lost.  A nice white shell necklace.  And finally a wristlet or clutch purse.  I love this one in light blue, but I think I'm gonna settle for this one.  It's bigger and cheaper and probably more useful in the end.
